Who Will Win The Big 12 Basketball Championship?

This week things begin to heat up in the Big 12. It's championship week in college basketball and only one team will be able to come out on top by the end of this week. The Big 12 Basketball Championship is one conference tournament that many around the country will be keeping an eye on. Will it be Kansas taking home the crown or will Missouri come in for the upset, making their last dance at the Big 12 Basketball Championship a big one?

The Sprint Center, in downtown Kansas City, will be the stage where some of the nation's biggest college basketball stars will battle it out. The annual Big 12 Basketball Championship culminates on Saturday where a winner will get a number-1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Kansas Jayhawks have already earned the 2011-12 Big 12 men’s basketball regular-season title and therefore will play on Thursday, March 8th against Wednesday's winner. For those of you who are Kansas State fans, they will battle Baylor on Thursday. This should be a great game, both these teams split their two regular-season match-ups, with each winning on the road.

Who do you think will win?

Is Crennel Still Learning The Ropes?

It seems that head coach Romeo Crennel could possibly get fined and our beloved Kansas City Chiefs stripped of a draft choice for his comments about Peyton Manning and Chad Henne at the NFL scouting combine. When asked about Payton Manning being released by the Indianapolis Colts, Crennel said “I’m not supposed to talk about anyone else’s players. He’s still a player with Indianapolis. But with a talent like that, I would be crazy not to consider it if he were available. I’ll leave it at that.”

And his comment on Chad Henne of the Miami Dolphins, Crennel had this to say, “Because of his relationship with Daboll, I think that would be a consideration. To say right now that would be the case, I’m not ready to do that.” Brian Daboll is the new Chiefs offensive coordinator and was formerly with the Miami Dolphins.

What do you think of Crennel's comments? How would you feel about Manning or Henne playing for the Chiefs?

Olathe Northwest's Clark Thomas Looks To Win His Fourth State Championship in Diving

Olathe Northwest senior Clark Thomas will be heading to Federal Way, Washington in June to compete at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Men's Synchronized Springboard Competition. But before Thomas makes that fateful trip he is looking to beat the state's diving record at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka, Kansas. This will be his last meet in his high school career, a career that has seen many accomplishments such as becoming the first high school diver in Kansas to hit the 600-point plateau.

The Kansas 6A State Boys Swimming & Diving meet begins today around noon and ends Saturday, February 18th. Thomas has yet to lose a meet in his high school career and is looking to claim his fourth state championship at the state finals tomorrow.

Best of luck to Clark Thomas and we hope to be rooting for him at the Summer Olympics in London.

Take a look at Thomas featured on our local NBC station.

Thomas will be heading to Missouri next fall.

Victory in Waco?

Tonight our Kansas Jayhawks will go up against Baylor in Waco, Texas. Coming off a painful loss from Saturday's game against Missouri, the Jayhawks are looking for some redemption.

“I’m not used to losing, and I don’t like how it feels,” Guard Tyshawn Taylor said. “I don’t even know how to handle it sometimes. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, how I’m supposed to act. I’m not used to it, and I don’t like it.”

At our last match-up against Baylor, three weeks ago, we beat the Bears by 18 points. But while Kansas has lost two of its last three games, Baylor has won four straight.

So tonight, at 6 pm, we will once again face off to see who will stand with Missouri as leaders of the Big 12.

Go Jayhawks!!

Tom McMahon Joins The Chiefs

We wanted to congratulate our new special teams coach, Tom McMahon, who is replacing the Chief's former coach Steve Hoffman. McMahon comes to us via the St. Louis Rams, where he held the position for the past three seasons.

According to The Kansas City Star "The Chiefs parted ways with two other assistant coaches, Richie Anderson (wide receivers) and Pat Perles (assistant offensive line)."

Coach Crennel is making a lot of changes gearing up for next season. What do you think of this new addition?

Expansion in the Future for the Big 12?

The Kansas City Star is reporting a possibility of "more growth for the Big 12." Are Louisville and Brigham Young making a switch to the Big 12?  Bob Burda, the Big 12’s associate commissioner for communications, told the KC Star that yesterday's teleconference between the conference's four-member expansion committee was just a "routine call, with nothing of substance discussed.”

After losing Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC, the Big 12 filled the whole with TCU and West Virginia. But with the Big East trying to block the move of the Mountaineers through the courts, it could mean trouble for the Big 12 come February 1st when its expected to complete its football scheduling.

We'll have to wait and see how this plays out in the courts. We just hope it doesn't affect our deal with Fox Sports Net.

Will Chris Cosh Leave KSU For USF?

You might have heard the rumors circulating that Kansas State University defensive coordinator Chris Cosh is expected to travel south to Tampa to become the next defensive coordinator at the University of South Florida under head coah Skip Holtz. Although the official announcement has yet to be made, The Tampa Bay Times has reported the following:
"Cosh, 52, spent the weekend in Tampa to interview for the job, attending the Bulls' postseason banquet Saturday night and spending time with players and assistant coaches. He has been Kansas State's defensive coordinator and assistant head coach the past three seasons, helping the Wildcats to a 10-3 record in 2011."

Cosh has been with the Wildcats since the 2004-05 season, where he served as the linebackers coach prior to becoming the defensive coordinator. He was instrumental in the Wildcats great season and helped the team reach the Cotton Bowl.

What do you think of the news?

Congratulations Olathe Natives Michael Thomas and Kyle Miller

We were excited to hear that homebred soccer stars Michael Thomas and Kyle Miller have both signed with Sporting Kansas City.

“I'm extremely happy to be joining Sporting Kansas City,” Thomas said. “It sounds cliché but it truly is a dream come true to be playing for your hometown club. I can't wait to get started.”

[caption id="attachment_2278" align="aligncenter" width="496" caption="Photo via Sporting Kansas City"][/caption]

“It's a dream come true for me,” Miller said. “I went to all the games growing up. Playing for Sporting's Under-19 team was an amazing experience and made me realize that I could take the next step. I can't wait to get started and show what I can do.”

Thomas and Miller both attended St. Thomas Aquinas in Overland Park. While at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Michael helped lead the team to three state titles and was named to the 2005 NSCAA/adidas Boys High-School All-America team.

Congratulations Michael and Kyle!
