Kansas City, Meet Tyler Palko

[caption id="attachment_2121" align="alignright" width="270" caption="Photo via Kansas City Star"][/caption]

Tyler Palko. Get used to hearing his name because it appears that he'll be taking over as quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, at least for Monday's game against New England. With the hand injury Matt Cassel suffered in Sunday night's game against the Denver Broncos, Palko finally has a chance to start in a game since he first joined the NFL in 2007.

Palko completed five of his six passes for 47 yards on the Chief's final possession on Sunday's game against the Broncos, he even helped guide the Chiefs to a field goal. But Monday night will be a huge game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots and we are hoping that Palko can control his nerves and make the most of this opportunity. It has been a long time coming.

We wish Palko the best of luck as he prepares for his biggest game yet!

Don't forget that Nill Bros. Sporting Goods has Kansas City Chiefs apparel so stop by one of our two locations to prepare for Monday's game!

Sanchez is traded to Kansas City Royals

With news that left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez will be joining the Kansas City Royals for the 2012 season, we've been consumed with thoughts of baseball. Sanchez' trade from the San Francisco Giants will hopefully help strengthen our rotation.

“He’s thrown a no-hitter in the major leagues,” general manager Dayton Moore told the Kansas City Star. “When you look at this guy’s strikeout rates, his swing-and-miss ability, it’s among the very best in the game."

Sanchez told Kansas City Star that "I’m going to bring everything I have (to Kansas City) to make this team better."

If you need your baseball fix come out and see our latest bats from Easton here at one of our two Nill Bros. Sporting Good locations.

We are currently carrying these below Easton adult baseball bats below.

S2 - $299.95

XL2 - $299.95

Pack Mentality Helps Shawnee Mission Northwest Girls Cross Country Team!

[caption id="attachment_2094" align="alignright" width="180" caption="Courtesy of Shawnee Dispatch"][/caption]

All for one and one for all! That seemed to be the mantra for the 2011 Shawnee Mission Northwest girls cross country team as they won the Class 6A state championship kilometer race at KU Rim Rock Farm, near Lawrence, Kansas. Shawnee Mission Northwest girls had a total team score of 80 points, 24 more points than second-place Shawnee Mission West.

The girls cross country team credits their closeness to each other and their ability to push each other to excel as the reason behind their win.

“I think the thing to stress here is that these girls have been training as a pack since summer,” Northwest cross country coach Van Rose told the Shawnee Dispatch. “And they’ve been racing that way, as well. Before the race, I just told them, ‘Keep doing what you’ve been doing.’”

The Dispatch writes that it was the Cougars’ "consistent pack running" that enabled them to "place five runners in the top 25."

“We knew we just had to stay close together and have the pack start out strong and get up near the front,” Rose said. “It never was a slam dunk. After finishing second at regionals last week, we were a little nervous. We knew the bigger meets were in our favor. At the small meets — like regionals — if you have a couple of really good girls from your team at the top, then another team’s strong pack doesn’t have as much of an impact. Here we were able to make an impact.”

We are proud of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Girls Cross Country Team and wish them all the best!

*Remember Nill Bros. Sporting Goods has running apparel and shoes to help you reach your long distance goals!

Kansas City Chiefs Bring Home Another Win on Halloween!

[caption id="attachment_2075" align="alignright" width="250" caption="Courtesy of Kansas City Chiefs"][/caption]

Monday's night game against the San Diego Chargers was a real nail-biter and we wouldn't expect anything less from the Kansas City Chiefs. For a team that was 0-3 coming into October, the Chiefs have climbed their way back into a three-way tie at the top of the AFC West with their fourth consecutive win.

"We've got some fighters," said coach Todd Haley. "They don't care much what anybody says. They believe in what they're doing and what they're going to be and what they're going to accomplish."

It was a close call on Monday and if Philip Rivers didn't fumble the snap we probably wouldn't have gotten the "W" against the Chargers, but that is the way it goes in football. And that is why it is never over until the scoreboard reads 0:00.

"We were saying, 'Don't quit,' " said Andy Studebaker, who took River's fumble down the field for a touchdown. "You never quit, even if it looks ugly. If you quit every time something looks ugly, you miss an opportunity to do something special."

If you want to show your support for our Kansas City Chiefs come on down to one of our two Nill Bros. Sporting Goods store and pick up your favorite team member's jersey!
